About Us
Our story
A shop built on trust, experience and the small things that matter.
Forty years in one place
When we opened Fenwick & Sons in 1984, we made a simple promise: to stock what the high street needs and to know it inside out. Four decades later, we're still here, still in the same building, still serving the same families and tradespeople who walked through our door forty years ago—and their children after them.
We've watched the high street change. We've watched big sheds open on the ring road. And we're still here because local customers know that when they need help, they know where to find it.
People who know their trade
Our staff aren't salespeople first. They're people who've worked with tools, who understand paint, who can tell you the difference between a Phillips and a Robertson and why it matters. When a plumber walks in asking for a fitting we don't stock, we don't shrug and point them toward the chain store. We find it, order it in, or tell you honestly what will work instead.
That's the kind of shop we've always been. That's what keeps people coming back.
The things others stopped stocking
We stock paint mixers because people still mix paint by hand. We carry obscure fixings because a handyperson at 4 on a Friday needs a brass screw in a size nobody makes anymore—and we probably have it. We cut keys on the spot because you shouldn't have to plan a trip to town twice.
We've built our shelves for the people who live here and work here, not for the lowest common denominator. That's a philosophy, and it works.
What we stand for
